Today’s Bread ~ Immeasurable

12 Aug

Today’s Bread is a re-post from one year ago.  May God bless you richly and abundantly!

Psalm 8:3-4- When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you have set in place – what are mortals that you should think of us, mere humans that you should care for us?

My husband had plans last night, so it was me and the kiddos for Movie Night.  We had an early dinner right at 5pm, and then hustled to get ready for bed so we could start Jack and the Beanstalk at 5:45.  During the week, Caitlyn and Nick have a strict bedtime of 7:30.  We tend to push it back a couple hours on the weekends, but I wanted them in bed early so I could have some tube-time for myself.

While we snuggled together on the couch, I began to get the sensation that God was trying to tell me something.  “Go to bed early.  I want some time with you before the distractions of the day set in.”  I tried to fight it for a little while, because I really wanted to rent Clash of the Titans.  But His voice only got louder.  “Come away with me, first thing in the morning.  Let me refresh you.  Let me fill you.”  You see, it’s been a very busy couple of weeks, and while I was still sitting down with God and my Bible every day, my time was always cut short, rushed, or forced.  I truly needed to simply sit at the feet of Jesus and listen.

So I went to bed.  At 4:51 in the morning, my eyes popped wide open.  It was almost as if I’d heard God say, “Wake up!”  I put on my slippers, padded downstairs, started the coffee, and walked outside to breathe in the refreshing cool-for-August morning air.

I looked up at the sky and gasped.  I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen so many stars.  I rushed inside to get my glasses for a better look.  There were three in a vertical row I’d never noticed before.  Five or six of them were so bright that I was convinced they must be planes.  I stared for so long that I got a crick in my neck.  And I heard the whisper of the Holy Spirit, quoting Psalm 147:3-4 – He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds.  He counts the stars and calls them all by name.  And right there, in the middle of my back yard, I was absolutely flooded with His love.

He spoke the universe into existence.  There are more than 300 billion galaxies in the universe, and God wanted to wake me up to tell me that He loves me…and you.  That He is with us.  That He has a plan for us, and that it’s good.  To have faith when things get difficult.  To trust Him during times of refining and pruning.  To take time away with Him to marvel at His creation.  He made it for you.

Psalm 8:5-6 says, “For you made us only a little lower than the angels, and you crowned us with glory and honor.  You put us in charge of everything you made, giving us authority over all things.”  Breathe in deeply and meditate on that.  Though you can’t feel it, on your head sits a crown of glory, bejeweled with honor.  Draped across your shoulders are robes of righteousness, given to us when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins.  You are precious and beautiful in His sight.  Don’t doubt your worth. The value of your soul is immeasurable.  You are cherished.  How much so?  To quote Max Lucado, Jesus would rather die than live in heaven without you.

Dear Heavenly Father…..oh, how we love You.  We are humbled beyond words that You would think of us, and love us so much.  God, help us today to remember our robes of righteousness.  Let us feel those crowns upon our heads and never forget what they represent.  The magnificent work on the cross.  Jesus’ precious blood, shed for our sins and the sins of the world.  Help us to be Christ’s ambassadors, God, and share His love with everyone you place on our paths today.  We love You so much, God.   And we thank You for loving us.  It is in the precious, holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior that we pray.  Amen.
